A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

Success also means he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

His retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led observers to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an better serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a decider.

The opponent rescued four early opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the win with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
